1. Who we are

LionStory is operated by LIONSTORY BOOKS LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (Company No. 15849044), registered office: Office 4457, 182-184 High Street North, East Ham, London E6 2JA, United Kingdom ("LionStory", "we", "us").

We are the data controller of the personal data described in this policy. We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

2. What data we collect

Data you give us

• Contact and delivery details: name, email address, phone number, delivery address.
• Personalization details for the book: the name and gender of the child or other person the book is about, and the dedication text.
• Photos you upload for the book — usually a photo of a child.
• Messages you send us by email, WhatsApp, social media or the contact form, including any attached images.

Payment data

Payments are handled by our payment providers. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive confirmation of the payment and its amount.

Data collected automatically

• Order history and the contents of your cart.
• Technical data: IP address, approximate location (country), browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at our site.
• Cookies and similar technologies — see section 8.

3. Children's data and photos

Our books are made for children, but our website is for adults. Orders can only be placed by people aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect data directly from children.

When you personalize a book, you give us details about a child — a name and, if you choose, a photo. Please only do this if you are the child's parent or guardian, or have the parent's or guardian's permission.

How we treat this data:

• We use the child's details and photo only to create, print and deliver the book you ordered, and to reprint it if something goes wrong.
• We do not use children's photos for advertising, do not publish them, and do not sell them or share them with anyone except the print partner that produces your book.
• If you upload a photo but do not complete the order, we delete the photo within 30 days of the upload.
• If you place an order, we keep the photo while the book is produced and delivered, so that we can reprint it if something goes wrong, and delete it 45 days after the order is shipped.
• After deletion, copies may remain in our encrypted backups for up to 12 months before they are overwritten. We do not use backups for any purpose other than restoring our systems.
• You can ask us to delete a photo and the child's details at any time by emailing help@lionstory.com. We will do so within 5 business days unless the book is still in production.

5. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers who need it to do their job for us:

• Printing: Cloudprinter and our print partner in the UAE receive the finished book file and the delivery address.
• Delivery: the carrier for your order (listed on our Shipping Info page) receives your name, address, phone number and email.
• Payment: Stripe and PayPal process your payment.
• Hosting and infrastructure: Hetzner (Germany) and Cloudflare.
• Email and messaging: SendPulse (order and marketing emails), WhatsApp and the GetButton chat widget (if you contact us there), Telegram (internal order notifications to our team).
• Analytics and advertising, only with your consent: Google (Analytics, Ads, Tag Manager, BigQuery), Meta (Facebook Pixel), TikTok, Convead.
• Reviews: Trustpilot.

We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose data if the law requires it.

6. Where your data is processed

Our website and database are hosted in Germany. Some of our service providers are located outside the UK and the European Economic Area, including in the United States and, for orders delivered in the Gulf region, the United Arab Emirates. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK or EEA, we rely on adequacy decisions or on standard contractual clauses approved for such transfers.

7. How long we keep your data

• Uploaded photos: see section 3.
• Order, invoice and payment records: 6 years after the order, as required for tax and accounting.
• Support messages: 2 years after your last message.
• Marketing contact details: until you unsubscribe.

8. Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work — for example, to keep your cart, your language and your chosen country. These do not need your consent.

With your consent, we also use analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and advertising cookies (Google Ads, Meta, TikTok, Convead). These are not loaded until you accept them in the cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.

9. Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to:

• access the personal data we hold about you;
• have inaccurate data corrected;
• have your data deleted;
• restrict or object to our use of your data, including for direct marketing;
• receive your data in a portable format;
• withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

To use any of these rights, email help@lionstory.com. We reply within one month. We do not charge for this.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or, if you live in the EU, to the data protection authority in your country.

10. Security

Our site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to customer data is limited to the people who need it to process orders and provide support. No system is completely secure; if a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
